A27 drivers warned of full weekend of closures with diversions in place

Drivers have been told to plan ahead

Drivers on the A27 at Langstone Interchange are being warned of a full weekend of closures.

National Highways is continuing its bridge safety improvements to replace steel parapets, waterproofing, and expansion joints on both bridges.

Inspections found serious corrosion, worn waterproofing, and ageing joints causing noise for nearby residents, the authority said.

Narrow lanes and reduced speed are to continue until August 25 approaching from the A3 junction (eastbound) or Warblington junction (westbound), where there is a 50mph limit. Both directions have narrow lanes with a 40mph limit through the works.

Now drivers have been told there will be full weekend closures at the interchange in September.

The A27 closes from 9pm Friday to 6am Monday westbound between 4 to 7 September and 25 to 28 September. Heading eastbound it will close from 11 to 14 September and 18 to 21 September. “Avoid this stretch of the A27 if you can during these weekends,” the authority said. “Please follow all signed diversion routes.”

National Highways said: “We're doing essential safety and maintenance works on the A27 at Langstone Interchange. These works are needed to keep this important route safe and reliable for the many thousands of people who use it every day.”

There are also closures until 25 August both eastbound and westbound with full closures overnight (9pm - 6am) on weeknights (Monday to Friday).
