Portsmouth Christmas Lights Switch On Party moved inside to Cascades due to rain and wind speed forecast
One of Portsmouth main Christmas events has been moved indoors due to forecasted rain and wind speeds.
The Christmas Lights Switch On Party was set to take place in Commercial Road on Saturday, November 22 between 4.30 and 6pm. While the event will still be taking place at the same time, Portsmouth City Council have made the decision to move event indoors with it now taking place in Cascades Shopping Centre next to the Lush store.
Cllr. Steve Pitt, Leader of the Council with responsibilities for Economic Development said: "With many local performers of all ages taking part in our Christmas Lights Switch On Parties, their comfort and safety is a priority. Moving the event indoors allows us to continue with the festivities for everyone to enjoy.
“To change the venue of an event of this nature at short notice is a huge effort and we are grateful to the Cascades team for their support.
“We encourage all to come along to support our businesses and enjoy the Christmas cheer in our city centre."
The Christmas Lights Switch On Party will be hosted by Mark Collins (Nation Radio) and feature stars from panto including Shaun Williamson (Barry from Eastenders).
