Portsmouth North MP joins Burnham's Transport Team

Amanda Martin MP will assist the Secretary of State for Transport

The MP for Portsmouth North, Amanda Martin, has been appointed as a member of the Government’s Transport Team, after new Prime Minister Andy Burnham committed to a renewed focus on transport policy.

“I am excited to work with colleagues across Government and Parliament to deliver a transport system that works for ordinary people,” said Ms Martin.

“Being an island city, people in Portsmouth interact with more modes of transport than most.”

In her new role, she will support the Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander MP, in delivering the Government’s mission to build a more “affordable, reliable and accessible” transport system for communities across the country.

“My grandad was a train driver so from a young age I’ve had a real love of trains,” she said.

“Transport is central to unlocking opportunity for residents and our local economy.”

The Portsmouth North MP previously served as PPS to Education Secretary Bridget Philipson.

PM Andy Burnham’s new government has already introduced new transport policy, announcing last week the introduction of a £2 cap on bus fares from 1 January 2027.
