Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Major delays on the M27 were caused by a crash between multiple vehicles, the fire service has confirmed.

According to eyewitness reports, the M27 westbound tailed back onto the A27 earlier this morning, with delays building from Junction 12 for Portsmouth, back up towards the Eastern Road roundabout and beyond. The southbound carriageway of the A3(M) was also being backed up towards Havant.

A spokesperson said: “Firefighters attended a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the M27 westbound between Junctions 11 and 12.

“No one was trapped as a result of the collision. Crews worked to make the scene safe before handing the incident over to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary at 8.30am.”
