Derelict storage site could become a car park under new plans

A derelict storage site could be demolished to make way for a car park under new plans.
An application from Steve Judd seeks permission to clear the site, which already has existing permission for demolition, before redeveloping the land as an overflow parking area.
If approved, the scheme would see the current buildings at an unused site in Castle Trading Estate in Portchester, removed and replaced with a 70-space car park. This would serve a neighbouring site under the same ownership.
Planning documents submitted to Fareham Borough Council describe the area as no longer in active use, with the redevelopment aimed at bringing it back into use in a “functional, safe and sustainable” way.

It said: “The proposed development has been designed to provide a functional, safe, and sustainable parking solution whilst ensuring minimal impact upon the surrounding area.”
The design and access statement said the proposal has been designed to limit its impact on the surrounding area while addressing parking demand linked to the adjacent site.
The layout of the proposed car park has been designed to “maximise operational efficiency whilst maintaining safe vehicle circulation throughout the site.”
Parking spaces and access routes have been arranged to ensure vehicles can move safely, with “adequate manoeuvring space… to ensure safe ingress, egress, and circulation”, according to the documents.
The statement adds that areas around a drainage easement will be left unchanged to avoid disturbing underground infrastructure.
The plans were submitted to the council at the start of June, with a decision set to be made by July 30.
