The new office at The Precinct, South Street, officially opened by the mayor of Gosport during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday (14 May), marking an important milestone for the organisations as they continue to expand its support for vulnerable men and women across the community.

Steps Within's founder Sinead Smith, and Recovery Connections Hampshire manager, Lynsay Railton said the opening of the office reflects both the growth of the organisations and the progress made by the people they support.

Sinead said: “I am incredibly proud of the women within our houses and the journeys they have been on. Some of the changes we’ve seen in women’s lives have been truly incredible.

Lynsay said: "I am incredibly proud of our community and the progress they make. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive community where people feel understood, rediscover their purpose, and realise recovery is possible, not just for themselves, but for those they may inspire in the future.

“This office is a huge step forward for us and reflects the hard work of our teams and the ongoing support from the local community.

“We're very grateful to the amazing staff behind the services, as well as the support we’ve received from local councillors, the and organisations including Inclusion and The Silkworth Project.”

Those supported by the services have also spoken about the positive impact the service has had on their recovery.

One person said: “Being housed by Steps Within has changed my life around an incredible amount already.

“Being in an all-female recovery house has helped me find myself again as a woman, and I genuinely feel my recovery is stronger because of it.”

Another said: “One part of the service that helped me most was the peer mentoring, speaking to someone who had been through addiction themselves made me feel understood.

"Completing the ambassador course gave me confidence, purpose, and a reason to keep moving forward. Now I feel like my experiences could help someone else find their way out too."

The opening of the new office space will allow the organisations who work in partnership with each other, continue growing its services, strengthen partnerships within the community and provide ongoing support to women and men across Gosport and the surrounding areas.
