Gosport bespoke market postponed to next month due to forecasted high winds
Disappointment as returning market forced to postpone
A popular bespoke market that was set to return this weekend under new operators has been postponed after high winds were forecast.
It was confirmed earlier this week that the Gosport specialist market would be taking place on Saturday, August 29. However, after reviewing the weather forecast and the expected high winds, the organisers determined it was unsafe for it to go ahead.
The market has now been moved to Saturday, September 12 when it will boast a mixture of stalls, delicious food, unique gifts and crafts, and free family entertainment.
Cllr Lesley Meenaghan, deputy leader of Gosport Borough Council, said: “It is disappointing that the market has had to be postponed. The market is rescheduled to go ahead on Saturday, September 12.
“We want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy the market in a safe, welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, and postponing because of the high winds is the right thing to do. Thank you to our traders and the community for their understanding and continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone on September 12.”

The market stopped after the agreement with previous providers Anchored in Gosport came to an end with the council undertaking a procurement process to find new organisers.
The upcoming bespoke markets are now arranged for the following Saturdays: September 12, October 3 and November 28 alongside the Christmas lights switch on event.
Louis Crowe, the director of Quay West Studios who are providing free live music for the event, said: "Quay West have been involved in the Gosport monthly markets for some time now and we feel they are a fantastic asset for the town. We've really enjoyed being part of them and seeing the positive impact they have on residents, visitors and local businesses.
"The markets bring so much life, happiness and community spirit to the town centre, and we're so pleased to be able to continue our involvement and bring some great entertainment to the High Street."
