Gosport Borough Council calls for new bespoke market provider after abrupt end to former agreement
Agreement could not be reached with previous organiser
Gosport Borough Council are searching for a new bespoke market provider to arrange events of the remainder of the year.
It was confirmed at the beginning of July that the Anchored in Gosport markets would no longer be continuing after its agreement with the council ended in April. The news was greeted with shock by market traders and small businesses in the area that were reliant on the increased footfall that the markets brought to the high street.
The council have now moved to secure the future of the bespoke markets for the rest of the year as it invites organisers to register their interest.

Cllr Lesley Meenaghan said: "Gosport Borough Council is seeking to appoint a provider to deliver its bespoke markets, scheduled for August 29, October 3 and the bespoke market that happens during the Christmas lights switch on event, which is taking place on November 28.
"Procurement to identify the new operator began on July 13. Our aim is to secure the best value for public money while continuing to provide high‑quality markets that support Gosport’s town centre, local businesses and residents.”
The council has said the new organisers will be responsible for “delivering vibrant, well‑managed markets that attract visitors, support traders, and contribute to the continued regeneration of Gosport’s high street”.
As well as searching for a new market operator, a separate search for an operator to organise the Christmas Light switch-on on November 28 will be launched shortly. Last year’s Christmas light switch-on was also arranged by Anchored in Gosport.
