Fans get a chance to meet the Pompey Lion

Portsmouth Football Club is marking today’s (Saturday, April 18) fixture against Leicester City with a dedicated Portsmouth100 matchday, celebrating the city’s past, present and future.

Ahead of kick-off at 12.30pm, a Portsmouth FC-themed lion will take pride of place in the Victory Suite which is being designed by local artist and Pompey fan Mark Kellett. Supporters will be able to watch the piece come to life pre-match, with Mark painting the lion in front of supporters.

It is one of 45 full-size lion sculptures across the city this summer, with Pompey’s lion remaining at Fratton Park for the duration of the campaign, with the club saying it is proud to play its part.

Later in the year the celebrations will also continue with a new Pompey Exhibition at Portsmouth Museum in October which will showcase the Portsmouth Football Club’s history, culture and community, with the club’s Pompey History Society playing a central role in telling that story.
