The vehicle was left marooned downstream after attempting to cross the surging Moyles Court ford, near Ringwood in the New Forest, during heavy rain and a weather warning on Thursday.

Police have issued a warning to drivers and cordoned off the area to prevent others attempting the hazardous crossing.

It comes just over a month after a motorist had a lucky escape at the same spot when their car was swept away before they needed rescuing as Storm Bram hit the country. The car’s front wheels had entered the water before the driver tried to reverse - but it was too late as the vehicle was swept away.

It led to a warning from Hampshire Police to drivers across the county to avoid crossing fords and ploughing through potentially dangerous waters.

Posting on Facebook on Thursday, Ringwood councillor John Haywood said: “Am hearing that the water depth on Moyles Court ford exceeds two feet (60cm if you like metric).

“At that depth people and cars get washed away. Do not use it until it subsides.”
