Mountbatten Centre gym in Portsmouth to be given a £750,000 refurb as part of extended BH Live contract with city council

The gym at the Mountbatten Centre in Stamshaw is line for new machines, a new layout and a general revamp.

The city council has signed a deal with BH Live which extends the operator’s contract for another 10 years. BH Live started running the city council’s gyms in 2013, and under the extension will operator the new leisure centre being built at Bransbury Park in Eastney.

It also runs the Pyramids Centre, Wimbledon Park Sports Centre, and other venues across Portsmouth.

Cllr Lee Hunt, cabinet member for culture, leisure and community safety said: “The Mountbatten Leisure Centre is a flagship facility in our city, and this refurbishment will give gym users a significantly better experience. By extending our partnership with BH Live, a trusted provider, we can secure long‑term improvements and ensure that every pound generated through leisure services is reinvested back into community wellbeing. This is exactly the kind of partnership working that strengthens Portsmouth’s leisure offer for years to come.”

Other work on the cards includes refurbishing the changing rooms at Wimbledon Park Sports Centre, a new group cycle studio at the Mountbatten, and reformer pilates classes being introduced at the Pyramids.
