New section of Southsea Beach closed as the next phase of works to pump shingle onto the shoreline begins
The next phase of works pump shingle onto Southsea Beach is about to begin which has seen a new section of the beach closed off.
Temporary Heras fencing has been installed between the promenade and the beach from South Parade Pier to the Southsea Beach Café, with The Gateway dredging vessel having now arrived.

It will this week begin the task of adding over a million tonnes of beach material onto Southsea beach between The Pyramids and the Coffee Cup at Eastney and will involved the vessel importing the beach material around the clock for around 30 days.
The shingle will then be transported along this stretch of beach using dumpers and moved into place using bulldozers and diggers.
The fencing will remain in place until mid-late December, though access to the promenade will be maintained.

Meanwhile work to create an extended Canoe Lake outfall pipe is now fully complete.
This work saw 60 metres of pipe attached to the existing pipe and, at one stage, six excavators worked in tandem to hoist it into position.
The pipe will soon be hidden by the newly imported shingle and a navigation marker will be installed.
