Details and times

Serving personnel, veterans and youth groups will take part in the main parade at 10.30am on Sunday (November 8). This will be followed by a two-minute silence at 11am and the service itself. Wreaths will then be laid at the First World War Cenotaph and Second World War Memorial.

Hundreds of people attended the tribute last year as the lives of those who died in conflicts were fondly remembered. An emotional memorial has also been scheduled on Armistice Day, November 11.

Starting at 10.30am at the Cenotaph, various sermons and poems will be read to the crowd. A two-minute silence will then be held at 11am, marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This marks the exact moment that fighting in the First World War came to an end on November 11, 1918.

Traffic is expected to be busy ahead of the memorial events. Motorists are advised to use the Park and Ride at junction 1 of the M275, with residents encouraged to use public transport, walk, or cycle to the events. Another fitting tribute is the Sea of Poppies currently on display at Southsea Castle.

Around 27,000 handmade flowers were draped over the castle walls to pay tribute to armed forces families and veterans, while volunteers were raising money for the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Havant memorial service

Remembrance services are taking place across the Portsmouth area, including events in Havant, Hayling Island and Emsworth on November 8. One of these will take place at St Faith’s Church War Memorial.

Deputy Lieutenant Mr David Frere-Cook will be in attendance, along with the Mayor of Havant, Alan Mak MP and the Leader of Havant Borough Council, Councillor Gillian Harris. A parade will leave the Royal British Legion Ex-servicemen’s club in Brockhampton Road, before proceeding to Park Road South alongside Elm Lane and turning into North Street.

They’ll assemble at 10.50am, with the two-minute silence planned at 11am. A service of Remembrance will then take place inside the church at 11.15am.
