WATCH: Arrogant drug driver smashes into unmarked police car after leading officers on 60mph chase through residential roads
Police have shared footage of the shocking moment a drug driver smashes into a police car following a 60mph chase through residential roads.
Jordan Carson was pulled over in his white transit van in Upper Deacon Road on February 12 of this year by officers from the roads policing unit, before quickly changing his mind, prompting a police chase.
The 25-year-old tradesman led the police a 60mph chase through residential streets in Sholing and Bitterne, with officers directing units in position for Carson’s attempt to flee on foot.
Stopping in Merryoak Green, Carson reversed into a police car before leaving his car and crossing paths with an officer on foot primed and ready for the interaction.
Investigating officer PC Jake Lawrence said: "Carson's arrogance led him to believe he was a more capable driver than our specially trained team, and could escape justice by leading them on a chase through a residential area.
"Thanks to PC Scott's expertly led pursuit, he wasn't able to get away and is now paying the price for his decision to get behind the wheel while on drugs, and without a licence or insurance.
"There is simply no excuse for dangerous driving on our roads, which puts the lives of other motorists in danger."
Southampton Crown Court heard how he was driving without a licence or insurance, and had also subsequently tested positive for cannabis.
Carson, of Spring Road, Southampton, admitted dangerous driving, drug driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and failing to stop, and was handed a one year jail term, suspended for two years.
He was also given a two year ban from driving, told he must take an extended retest before getting behind the wheel again, and will have to undertake 150 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation days.
