A Section 34 dispersal order empowers officers to order a person or group to leave an area and not return within the 48 hour period. Failing to comply is a criminal offence and can result in an arrest.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said no arrests were made while the dispersal order was active. It lasted for 48 hours from 3pm on May 12. Patrols from the Fareham Neighbourhood Policing team were increased significantly after a spate of incidents.

This included a man being punched in the face by a boy on Fareham High Street. Multiple reports were made to police about the attack, which took place at roughly 5.10pm on April 27. No arrests have been made in relation to the assault as of yet. Both people left the area following the incident.

On Monday (May 11), three youths entered a business on the high street and verbally abused a member of staff before leaving the store. Two instances of criminal damage were also reported to police. The first, which took place between 3pm on May 3 and 9am on May 5, involved smashing a window and destroying plants and furniture.

This happened at a property in West Street. A subsequent incident took place at the same address between 3pm on May 5 and 9am on May 6, with plants and furniture again being damaged. A spokesperson said all lines of enquiry with the criminal damage investigation have been exhausted, wit the case being filed pending further investigation. They added: “Enquiries remain ongoing to establish whether all the incidents are linked.”
