Dispersal order issued across Fareham town centre as youths attack people and shout verbal abuse
The powers allow police to force people to move on from an area, or face being arrested
A dispersal order has been issued around Fareham town centre after youths assault people and cause rampant anti-social behaviour.
The Section 34 order has been implemented today (May 12) from 3pm and will be in place until May 14. A social media statement from Fareham Police said the decision was made following “multiple reports of anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, and assaults involving a group of young people” in the town centre.

Recent instances of criminal damage in Museum Gardens took place between April 27 and April 29. Under these powers, groups of people can be moved on from highlighted areas when approached by officers. Failing to comply can result in arrests.
Streets inside this zone include East Street, High Street, Quay Street and others.
The force said: “Dispersal orders enable police to deal with any issues of anti-social behaviour (ASB) in a directed area more effectively and gives our officers the power to order a person to leave the area with no return within the 48 hour period for which the order remains active.
“Fareham’s Neighbourhood Policing Team will be patrolling the area throughout the duration of the order and will use these powers where necessary to prevent further ASB and ensure the safety of local residents and businesses. Those who refuse to comply with the order are committing a criminal offence and are liable for arrest.”
