M27: Man who tried to dupe police arrested and vehicle with 'strong smell of cannabis' seized
Despite being friendly to the police, the driver gave them false information to try and get away with it
A man has been arrested for drug driving offences on the M27 with this vehicle seized.
The silver Volkswagen was pulled over by officers late last night (May 13). In a social media statement, Fareham Police said the out of county car was investigated due to “a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle”. He was detained for various offences.

“During the stop the driver was searched under section 23 of the misuse of drugs act, and cannabis was recovered from the vehicle,” the force added. “Despite the man's accommodating behaviour he chose to provide false details to the officers during the stop.
“After testing positive for cannabis on a roadside drugs wipe, the man was arrested and taken to custody where he finally decided to hand over his real details. Providing these led to discovering that the man was driving without insurance and without a valid licence, he was reported for these offences and his vehicle was seized.
“The man will await the results of a drug related blood test before setting a potential court date.”
