'Abusive man' sparks police callout to Fratton Railway Station as 'incident' blocks train lines

Two separate incidents were reported at the station last night

Emergency services were called to a busy railway station due to an “incident” in the early hours.

Police and ambulance crews were deployed to Fratton station and worked at the site this morning (May 14). South Western Railway (SWR) said the train lines were blocked for a short while disrupting services.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said officers were called to reports of “abusive man” on a train at around 11.45pm on May 13. The male left a short time after officers arrived, they added.

The force spokesperson said ambulance crews were also deployed to the station in an unrelated incident. A person had become unwell on the same train. It’s unclear which incident caused the disruption. The BTP have been approached for further clarification.

Reporting that train lines were blocked, an SWR social media statement said: “The police dealing with an incident that is affecting the railway at Fratton. Trains may be delayed or revised because of this problem.

“At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at 1.30am on May 14. All lines towards Portsmouth Harbour are blocked and your journey is likely to take longer. We will let you know if this changes or when we have more information.”

SWR said the incident was dealt with at 1.05am and services returned to normal.
