Live Facial Recognition vans to return to Portsmouth to target criminals and 'keep our communities safe'
Technology used to identify high risk offenders
Police will be deploying live facial recognition technology in Portsmouth next week.

The police vans which use the technology to compare a human face from a digital image against a database of faces will be returning to the city on Wednesday, June 10. The technology was last used in Portsmouth at the end of May and is utilised to “target criminals and keep our communities safe”.

A post on social media said: “Our new Live Facial Recognition vans will be heading to Portsmouth again next week, to help our teams target criminals and keep our communities safe. The vans arrived in force at the end of last year and now they are being deployed across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
“Their next stop is Portsmouth on Wednesday, June 10. The specialist team will be joining forces with our local officers in the town to help identify suspects for high risk and priority offences, as well as helping to find any high-risk missing people.”
The two fully equipped live facial recognition vans were rolled out in December following a successful pilot in 2024.
