Havant man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder following Eastney protests - search still on for three more men

Fifth arrest made following police appeal

A Havant man has been arrested on suspicion of violent conduct following the protests at Eastney earlier this month.

The 52-year-old man was apprehended after police published eight images of men they wanted to speak in the aftermath of the protest on September 6. Around 200 people gathered in Eastney to protest the arrival of 120 migrants that arrived after the RNLI saved them from a small boat crossing the Channel.

The crowd was dispersed at around 4am the following morning with a small number of police officers requiring treatment for injuries. Police, Coastguard and Border Force vehicles were also damaged during the protest.

Since the police released their appeal, four people have been charged with violent disorder. That includes:

  • Deano Ryan, aged 22, who pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 18
  • Bradley Pinnock, 29, of Fathoms Reach, Hayling Island
  • Justin Dixon, 50, of Cross Way in Havant
  • Del Somerville, 42, who pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 16
