Hayling police chief inspector Matt Moss said: “We are aware of a travellers encampment on Legion Field. We have had a number of encampments in the wider Havant area in recent weeks, and will continue to work with Havant Borough Council or other landowners who ultimately have the responsibility to evict groups who are trespassing on their land.”

A second encampment has been based at Hermitage Lea on Stockheath Lane for the past few days. A section 78 eviction notice has been secured in court with the papers served to the group yesterday evening.

A third group pitched up at Barton Field next to the Westleigh Park football ground on Friday of last week. They left on Wednesday evening, leaving bags of rubbish behind them, and then set up at a play field in Bedhampton off of Scratchface Lane.

Officers were due in court today to request the section 78 notice with the eviction set to take place by midday on Saturday, July 18.
