Bransbury Park update reveals unbelievable progress being made on leisure centre with pool construction advancing
Work is progressing at a new leisure centre
Progress is coming on at a rate of knots at the site of a new leisure centre.
Bransbury Park is a constantly evolving scene, with construction ploughing ahead to create a £22 million leisure centre that will accommodate two swimming pools, a gym, fitness studios and a GP.
In the most recent update from Portsmouth City Council’s bulletin, it says the base of the main pool has been prepared with a process known as blinding. This involves a layer of concrete being poured over the ground to create a stable, level foundation for construction.

A layer of insulation has been installed, followed by a damp-proof membrane which creates a protective barrier against moisture and ensures everything is in place for the next phase of the build.
Work is also underway to install a steel rebar that will reinforce the structure. The large steel frame will connect the deep foundation piles to the main steel framework above. Once this stage is complete, concrete will be poured over the top, forming a strong, durable structure that is securely anchored to the piles deep below ground.
To prevent overwhelming the current drainage system, an attenuation tank is being installed at the site. Crates, which will be covered in soil in due course, will be used to temporarily store water underground in the event of heavy rainfall in a bid to prevent flooding. The water will be slowly released into the drainage network over time to avoid excessive water in the system.
It was previously confirmed the contractors, Willmott Dixon, are on schedule to have the new leisure centre complete by the end of next year where it will be taken over by BH Live which will operate and manage the site.
