"Nothing will ever be like Portsmouth": Excitement as Natty's Jerk prepares to open in Selfridges
What started as a small catering company has blossomed into an unstoppable restaurant business as Natty’s Jerk prepares to open a new major location next week.
Natty’s Jerk, which is the brain child of Natty Crutchfield and his wife in 2017, was established in a bid to bring a taste of the Carribean to Portsmouth.
Almost nine years on and the business has become a force to be reckoned with over the past few years with its list of new sites that have opened.
Natty said: “I’ve been genuinely very lucky to expand - driven and fuelled on by the people of Pompey lets be honest, you’ve made me feel like I can do it so we’ve managed to expand to a few different cities and we are looking to expand even more at the moment.
“London is a different market.
“So there’s definitely excitement. I don’t know if I’m at the peak of my excitement yet because I am doing a lot of hours, worrying about it, making sure it is truly how it should be and I’m sure my excitement will be at some point next week after I’ve got through the opening.”
He explained: “What people won’t know and this is where everyone is going to think I’m crazy but I am actually opening another one in Brighton on the 4th of February.
“I’ve had that in the works since last September but because Selfridges came along, we put everything on hold and that became the priority and now I can’t wait any longer because it needs to be done so I jump out of opening on Monday in Selfridges to opening in Brighton.
“But nothing will ever be the same as Portsmouth. It’s very close to me, it’s a concept. It’s where I do all of the fun stuff.”
