Giorgio's Mediterranean Restaurant and Bar in Bishops Waltham announces closure
The owner has thanked customers for their support
A popular restaurant in Hampshire has announced it will be closing after 12 years in business.
Giorgio’s Mediterranean Restaurant and Bar has become a fixture of the high street in Bishops Waltham but as of Saturday, August 29 it will be closed with the owner choosing to step away in order to spend more time with his family.
Having opened in 2014, the restaurant has become a popular eating spot serving a range of Greek and Italian inspired dishes.
The news of the closure was announced on social media. The post said: “It is never an easy decision to say goodbye to something that has meant so much to us, but we do so with full hearts and countless cherished memories. We would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to all our customers for their support over these years.
“Thank you for becoming more than just regulars. You’ve celebrated parties, birthdays, anniversaries and special milestones here with us. You’ve filled this place with life, love, laughter and unforgettable memories. It is safe to say you’ve made Giorgio’s what it is.”

Following the announcement owner George Efstathiou responded to comments of support from the community revealing that he was stepping to spend more time with his family.
He said: “The decision to close hasn’t been an easy one, but after 26 years of working as a chef and 12 years of running my own restaurant. I feel it’s time for a new chapter and, most importantly, more time with my family. Thank you for making the last 12 years so special.
“We’ve got a little bit of time left, so we hope to see as many of you as possible before we finally close the doors!”
While August 29 marks the end of Giorgio’s, the site will remain as a restaurant. Peter Hayes, a chef and restaurateur, will taking over the restaurant and running it under a new name. All advanced bookings made through Giorgio’s will be honoured by the new restaurant.
