King's Academy Northern Parade receives food hygiene rating of two as provider Compass Group confirms staff retrained

‘Improvement necessary’ finds food hygiene inspectors

A Portsmouth school has been told improvement is needed after food hygiene inspectors paid a visit.

King’s Academy Northern Parade on Doyle Avenue received a two-out-of-five rating following an inspection on May 12. Chartwell Schools, a part of Compass Group UK, which runs the food side of the school said it had not met its own “high standards”.

The food hygiene officers look at three specific areas when compiling their reports. When visiting the primary school it judged that its hygienic food handling and management of food safety was ‘generally satisfactory’. However the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building was rated as ‘improvement necessary’.

A spokesperson for Chartwells Schools said: “Food safety and hygiene is always our number one priority. Clearly, in this isolated incident, we did not meet the high standards of safety and cleanliness that we set ourselves.

“In response, we have retrained the team and are working with the school to address the structural issues raised. We look forward to welcoming back the EHO for a follow up visit.”
