Fratton's Paanchi reopens after Environmental Health shut it down over mouse infestation
A takeaway has reopened
Environmental Health has given a takeaway the green light to reopen after an active mouse infestation was revealed during an inspection.
Paanchi, in Fratton Road, has reopened today (Friday, June 19) after being visited by Environmental Health officers for a second time in just over a week.
On June 10, a routine hygiene inspection took place at the Indian street kitchen uncovering an active mouse infestation that posed a threat to public safety as well as “filthy” conditions.
Mouse droppings were discovered next to open food and cooking equipment, and there was a risk that urine was present on work surfaces and equipment, posing a further hazard.

The inspecting officer served a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice on Paanchi Portsmouth Ltd, prohibiting the business from operating until the problem had been resolved.
Councillor Lee Hunt, cabinet member for community safety, leisure, and sport, said: “Food businesses must maintain clean, pest‑proof premises at all times. Protecting residents is our top priority, and immediate closure was necessary.”
