Covid-19 vaccines in Hampshire 2026: Programme now open for elderly and vulnerable
This year’s round of Covid jabs for those who need them has now started
The NHS in Hampshire has launched the spring Covid-19 vaccination campaign for those who are at risk from the virus.
While the threat of Covid is nothing like it was five or six years ago, it can still prove serious for the elderly, those with a weakened immune system, and those who have respiratory issues.
The campaign started this week and runs until June 30. People who are over 75 years, living in a care home, or are six months and over with a weakened immune system are eligible for a free vaccine.

The NHS says that individuals considered to have a weakened immune system include people living with HIV, those who have received an organ, bone marrow, or stem cell transplant, and people undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy. It also includes people with genetic conditions affecting the immune system and those taking medications that suppress immune response.
GP Dr Zaid Hirmiz, who is the deputy chief medical officer for NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, said: “Although life has largely returned to normal for many of us, Covid-19 has not gone away and continues to circulate within our communities.

“For those who are more vulnerable, whether due to age or underlying health conditions, the spring vaccination offers important additional protection and helps lower the chances of becoming seriously unwell or needing hospital care.
“People may question why further doses are needed, but this is because viruses naturally evolve over time. Vaccines are updated accordingly to ensure they continue to provide the strongest possible defence.”
There are several convenient ways for eligible individuals to receive their vaccination. Many people will be contacted by their GP practice, but those who are eligible do not need to wait for an invitation. Appointments can be booked via the National Booking System, the NHS App, or by calling 119.
Details of any roving clinics will also be updated on the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s vaccinations page.
This year’s spring campaign aims to reach the 296,180 eligible people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, helping to reduce serious illness and protect those most at risk.
Anyone who is not sure about their eligibility, or who needs support with booking an appointment, can contact the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Covid Vaccination Helpline on 0300 561 0018.
