Play combined with a teacher-led curriculum form the foundations of a cherished pre-school which has celebrated its first birthday.

The pre-school provides a balance of adult-led teaching as well as independent learning through indoor and outdoor activities including rhyme time.

Sarah Newton, early years foundation stage phase leader at the pre-school, said: “We are a teacher led pre-school. We are very excited to be a teacher led pre-school which is very unique for Portsmouth, there’s not many in the area.

“Each half term, we have exit points where we invite parents to come in and celebrate the children’s achievements, our most recent one was when we discussed harvest and the children were able to talk about what happens at harvest and autumn, and there were so many parents that came and joined in - we had a really lovely time. We get quite a high parental involvement at the school which is really nice.”

The pre-school leader said the plans for the future are to ‘continue to evolve’ with play at the heart of the school’s teaching programme.
