Major supermarket Aldi in Fareham to introduce new ANPR parking system in coming weeks

Supermarket makes changes to parking

Parking restrictions are being introduced at a busy supermarket in Fareham with a new management system pending.

Aldi in West Street, Fareham, will be implementing a new ANPR (Automatic number plate recognition) system to prevent shoppers overstaying the maximum stay.

A sign at the supermarket said a “new camera controlled car park management system” will be installed in the coming weeks, with customers required to enter their full car registration at the in-store touch screens to avoid receiving a £70 fine.

The ANPR system will monitor when vehicles enter and exit the car park to ensure they remain within the allotted hour and a half.

The poster says customers who park on double yellow lines, in loading bays or in disabled spaces without a blue badge will breach the new guidelines and will be isssued a fine.

The new system will be overseen by Parkingeye, a management and enforcing company that currently operates cameras at 550 Aldi freehold stores across the country including Southsea and Portsmouth.

A spokesperson for Parkingeye said: “We currently provide parking management services at the Aldi store in Fareham.

“To help ensure the car park remains available for Aldi customers, we have been exploring the introduction of in-store registration terminals that would allow customers to enter their vehicle details.

“Once the new arrangements are in place, on-site signage will be updated accordingly and store colleagues will be on hand to make customers aware of the changes.

“In the meantime, the existing 90-minute maximum stay for Aldi customers remains in place.”
