Aldi reveals the areas of Hampshire in which it wants to open new stores, including Portsmouth and Fareham borough
German discounter has issued a list of five areas where it wants to open new shops
Aldi has revealed its hitlist of areas in Hampshire in which it wants to build new stores.
The German discount supermarket already has many shops in and around Portsmouth, including in the Pompey Centre in Fratton Southampton Road in Northarbour and Kingston Crescent in Portsmouth, West Street in Fareham, Mumby Road in Gosport and the centre of Havant as well as Hedge End and Petersfield.
It now says it is looking for sites in the north of Portsmouth and Park Gate. Elsewhere in the county it has its sights on Winchester, Aldershot and Chineham and Basingstoke.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We know how important it is for people to have access to affordable, high-quality food close to where they live, which is why we’re focused on identifying the communities that would benefit most from a new Aldi store.
“Opening new stores in these areas means we can bring great value to more customers, while also creating jobs and offering industry-leading pay.”
Aldi, which was founded in Germany in 1946, says it is the UK’s highest-paying supermarket, with store assistants earning from £13.50 per hour nationally and £14.88 within the M25, rising further with length of service.
It is spending more than £370m on new stores this year. It has about 1,100 stores in the UK and is aiming for 1,500 nationwide.
Aldi says it is seeking freehold, leasehold or long leasehold sites in prominent locations with good visibility and access, and is encouraging landowners and agents in Hampshire to come forward with suitable opportunities.
