New signage teases opening of new Tiki bar in Port Solent at former Botanicals site

New signage has appeared at the sire of the former Botanicals bar in Port Solent confirming the unit will be the home of a new late-night Tiki bar.

It means that Tiki hut booths, live music and party vibes will soon be on the horizon at The Boardwalk with the bar called Mahina set to replace The Botanical which closed “for the foreseeable future” last July following unresolved “issues with the landlord”.

The empty unit has space for the food, drink and party space promised by Mahina, with the layout already featuring dining space, bar and a dance floor. Before it became The Botanical it had also been a another late-night venue called The Watermark.

The Mahina Facebook post said: “Something new is rising with the tide…

“Introducing MAHINA – Port Solent’s brand new premium tiki bar & late night destination! Inspired by the moon, the ocean and island gods, Mahina blends dark carved woods, glowing moonlight blues and tropical fire to create an immersive, high-energy escape from the ordinary.”

It follows the news that Ripper and Co Southsea will be closing its doors next month following almost three years of trading in Osborne Road and instead be opening the new venue run by Hampshire Pub Co which also runs Rapscallion's in Port Solent and the Bird In Hand at Lovedean.

The immersive horror themed bar and restaurant said the decision to close “is not a reflection of performance” and is so the team can focus their “time” and “energy” on the new tiki inspired venue, which is due to open in the spring.

The Southsea bar said: “Ripper & Co has been a hugely loved part of our company, with an amazing team and a loyal community who made it what it was. As Hampshire Pub Co continues to grow, we need to focus our time, energy and attention on the future which includes the opening of Mahina Port Solent

Mahina Port Solent, which has began its search for a new general manager, has been contacted for more information.
