Ripper and Co Southsea announces closure after 'incredible journey' with plans to open new tiki inspired bar
An immersive horror-themed bar has announced it will be closing following an “incredible journey” so the team can focus their “time” and “energy” on the launch of a new tiki inspired venue.
Ripper and Co, in Osborne Road, has taken to social media this morning (February 26) confirming it will close its doors on March 28 after almost three years of trading within the city.
The cocktail bar and restaurant, which opened in the summer of 2023, is owned by Dan Swan who also operates three Rapscallions sites across Hampshire and Sussex, and is preparing to open a new concept venue this spring.

“This decision is not a reflection of performance, Ripper & Co has been a hugely loved part of our company, with an amazing team and a loyal community who made it what it was.
“As Hampshire Pub Co continues to grow, we need to focus our time, energy and attention on the future which includes the opening of Mahina Port Solent. We’re incredibly proud of everything Ripper & Co has produced and grateful to every guest and team member who made it special. We hope to welcome you over the coming weeks to celebrate it with us.”
The bar was also discussed during a Radio 4 Woman's Hour interview at the time with Hallie Rubenhold, the author of ‘The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper’, saying this type of serial killer concept “is a real problem” in today’s culture.
Following the increasing scrutiny across the city, the owner said the bar would primarily focus on fictional characters including Sweeney Todd, Chucky and Hannibal Lecter.
