'This hasn’t been an easy decision': The Bugle Hotel landlady 'steps down' due to rising costs and health concerns

A landlady has said rising costs and health concerns have prompted her to leave a popular pub

Increasing costs are one of the main reasons a landlady has announced she will be stepping down.

The post said: “To our community, I wanted to share that I’ll be stepping down as landlady of The Bugle Hotel. This hasn’t been an easy decision, but with the continued rise in living costs and some ongoing health concerns, I know it’s the right time for me to take a step back.

“Running The Bugle has been such an important chapter in my life, and I couldn’t have done it without the incredible people around me. To my amazing staff, close friends and my husband who stood by me through everything—your support, hard work, and loyalty have meant more than words can say.

“You’ve truly made it all possible. To our customers and wider community, thank you for your kindness, laughter, and support. You’ve made The Bugle more than just a pub—you’ve made it a home. I’m so proud of everything we’ve built together and will always treasure the memories.”

The pub, which comes with eight hotel rooms and a function room, is part of the Stonegate Pub Group, with a search for a new operator published last month. The previous listing said the historic pub is “ideal for business people looking for a place to stay.”

The landlady urged customers to continue supporting the pub, describing it as a “very special place.”
