Where’s hot this October half-term? Five last-minute sunshine escapes for families
Still haven’t booked your October half-term holiday? Families looking to escape the autumn chill could find temperatures as high as 32°C.

October half-term is fast approaching, but parents who haven’t yet booked a family getaway may still have time to squeeze in some sunshine before winter.
As Britain heads deeper into autumn, temperatures remain firmly in beach-holiday territory in several popular destinations.

And families don’t necessarily need to fly long haul to find the heat, with Cyprus reaching around 27°C and Morocco around 28°C.
Post Office Insurance has picked out five destinations for an October sunshine escape.
Adam Edinburgh, Head of Travel and New Products at , said: “For those looking for October sunshine, whether you want short-haul convenience or long-haul adventure, there are destinations that guarantee warmth and relaxation.”
Cyprus – around 27°C
For families who still want a proper beach holiday, Cyprus can see temperatures around 27°C in October.
That makes it warm enough for days by the pool or on the beach, while the slightly milder conditions can make sightseeing with children more comfortable than during the height of summer.
There are also archaeological sites and traditional villages to explore if you can persuade the kids away from the pool.
Portugal – around 23°C
Portugal offers a gentler 23°C, which could appeal to families more interested in getting out and exploring than spending every day on a sunlounger.
Think coastal walks, beaches and sightseeing followed by dinner outdoors while the UK is already firmly into jumper weather.
Morocco – around 28°C
At around 28°C, Morocco provides plenty of heat for an October half-term escape.
Families can combine downtime by the pool with trips to the souks, exploring the country’s architecture or experiencing its dramatic desert landscapes.
Greek Islands – mid-20s
The Greek Islands remain warm into October, with temperatures hovering in the mid-20s.
Families could enjoy a quieter side to the islands after the peak summer rush, with beaches, pretty villages and plenty of opportunities for long lunches in the sunshine.
Mexico – around 32°C
If you’re willing to take the children long haul for half-term, Mexico offers the highest temperatures on the list at around 32°C.
Its beaches and resorts make it an obvious choice for families craving sunshine, but there’s also the opportunity to introduce children to Mexico’s history, food and culture.
Adam added: “A last-minute trip is the ideal way to embrace cosy vibes and recharge before winter arrives. Wherever you choose to go, make sure you’re covered with comprehensive travel insurance for peace of mind while you soak up the sun.”
