US vocal coach elevates talent at Spinnaker Chorus annual retreat
A singing group's vocal retreat had an American guest
Spinnaker's annual retreat proved once again why it is such a highlight in their calendar. This time the chorus had the privilege of being coached by Steve Scott, BHS Vocal Pedagogue and singing judge who arrived from the USA with expertise and insights that brought a fresh perspective to the chorus sound and performance.

Over the course of the weekend the chorus worked intensely - pushing themselves musically and technically. The learning sessions were focused and demanding but incredibly rewarding. Under Steve’s guidance the chorus explored new techniques, refined existing skills, and gained a deeper understanding of musical expression. It was a chance not only to improve individually but also to strengthen the unity of the sound being produced.
At the heart of everything was their Musical Director, John Palmer, whose leadership continues to inspire the chorus to aim higher and achieve more. His passion and vision set the tone for the weekend, encouraging everyone to embrace the challenge and make the most of this opportunity. Behind the scenes a team of Spinnakerettes ensured that everything ran smoothly creating an environment where members could fully focus on learning and enjoying the experience.
But...it wasn’t all hard work! The evening cabaret brought a change of pace, filled with laughter, creativity and more than a few hilarious moments (what happens at retreat, stays at retreat..) It was a reminder of the strong sense of community within the chorus and the joy that comes from sharing music and friendship.
By the end of retreat voices and legs were tired but spirits were high. It was an exhausting weekend, but unquestionably worth it. Spinnaker Chorus moves forward energised and united, committed to continuing to grow as singers and as a Chorus.
