Two Brothers, Three Mountains, One Big Reason to Keep Going

Two youngsters are going to scale the heights this summer - for a cause close to their heart

There’s something quietly powerful about watching children take on something most adults wouldn’t dare attempt.

This spring, two brothers - aged just 10 and 7 - are setting out to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales. Not for a medal. Not for a record. But for their mum.

Sylv and Frank Bean-Harding are taking on the legendary UK Three Peaks Challenge - a gruelling journey that spans Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) - all in just three days.

But this isn’t about speed, summit selfies, or ticking off a bucket list.

This is about love.

A challenge inspired by real life

The boys are fundraising for Crohn’s & Colitis UK, a cause that hits close to home. Their mum Molly Bean-Harding lives with Crohn’s disease - a lifelong condition affecting over 500,000 people in the UK, often invisibly and without much public understanding.

And while many families quietly manage the daily reality of chronic illness, Sylv and Frank have decided to do something loud about it. They’re climbing mountains.

Not the usual Three Peaks story

If you’ve heard of the Three Peaks Challenge before, it’s usually about speed - racing through all three mountains in 24 hours.

Not this time.

This attempt is being done differently:

  • One mountain per day

  • Daylight climbs only

  • Child-paced, safety-first approach

It’s slower. Smarter. And, in many ways, tougher. Because this isn’t about rushing to the finish line - it’s about showing up, step after step, even when it’s hard.

What makes this story special

There’s a moment every parent recognises - when your child decides to take on something bigger than themselves.

And this is that moment.

These aren’t elite athletes. They’re two kids who ride scooters, fall off, get back up, and try again. Kids who are learning, in real time, what resilience actually looks like.

And now, they’re taking that same mindset to the mountains.

And here’s where it gets interesting…

If the boys hit their fundraising target, they’re not just stopping at the climb.

They’re going to rough it properly.

The plan? Spend their first night in a remote mountain bothy - no frills, no comforts - and they're going to document the entire journey. The highs, the struggles, the laughs, the inevitable meltdowns... all of it.

It’ll be filmed, shared, and turned into a raw, honest vlog so supporters can follow every step of the adventure.

Not so polished. Not so perfect. Just real.

Why your support matters

Every donation goes towards funding research, support services and awareness for families living with Crohn’s and Colitis - conditions that are often misunderstood and under-discussed.

But beyond that, your support does something else.

It tells two young boys that what they’re doing matters.

That effort counts. That courage counts. That choosing to do something hard, for someone you love, counts.

The bottom line

There are bigger challenges out there. Faster times. Higher mountains.

But you’d be hard-pressed to find one with more heart.

If you’ve ever needed a reminder of what determination looks like - it might just be two brothers, boots on, heading up a mountain... one step at a time.
