Take the wheel at Stagecoach South’s Women’s Open Day
Women across West Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey are being invited to get behind the wheel and discover the wide range of career opportunities available in the bus industry.
Stagecoach South is hosting a Women’s Open Day on Sunday 6 September 2026, bringing together women from across its eight depots in Andover, Aldershot, Basingstoke, Chichester, Guildford, Portsmouth, Winchester and Worthing to showcase what it is really like to build a career in the bus industry.
The event will take place at Stagecoach South’s Portsmouth depot, Walton Road, Drayton, Portsmouth, PO6 1TU, and will offer women the opportunity to meet current Stagecoach employees, hear about their experiences and find out how they have built rewarding careers while balancing family and other commitments.
A key feature of the day will be the chance for attendees to have a go at driving a bus, supported by driving instructors. Visitors will also be able to speak directly to women working in a variety of roles across Stagecoach South, including those who have progressed their careers within the business.
The open day is being hosted by Stagecoach South Operations Director Carol Sim, who began her career in the industry as a bus driver before progressing through several supervisory and management positions before becoming an Operations Director.
Carol Sim, Operations Director at Stagecoach South, said: “I'm really excited to be hosting our Women’s Open Day and to bring together women from across our depots to share their experiences.
“I started my own career as a driver and have progressed to become an Operations Director, so I know first-hand just how many opportunities there are within the bus industry.
“We want women who come along to see that there is a place for them in our industry, whether they are looking to become a driver or are interested in the many other career paths available. We also want to be honest about what it is like to balance work and family life, and give people the opportunity to hear directly from women who are already doing it.
“And, of course, we’re looking forward to giving visitors the chance to get behind the wheel of a bus themselves!”
