Stagecoach South hosts Women’s Open Day
Women get behind the wheel and discover career opportunities across Stagecoach South
Stagecoach South has welcomed an inspiring group of women to its Women’s Open Day, giving attendees the opportunity to explore careers in the bus industry and experience what it is like behind the wheel of a bus.
Held at Stagecoach South’s Portsmouth depot as part of Catch the Bus Month, the event brought together employees from across the company’s depots in Aldershot, Andover, Basingstoke, Chichester, Guildford, Portsmouth and Worthing, showcasing the wide variety of roles and career opportunities available across the business.
Stagecoach South operates across West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire, connecting communities across the region, and the event provided an opportunity for women from across the business to come together, share their experiences and highlight the different career paths available within the bus industry.
Attendees were able to meet women working in a variety of roles, hear about their career journeys and experiences, and learn more about balancing work and family life.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Stagecoach bus, supported by the company’s experienced driving instructors. For many attendees, it was their first time driving a bus, with plenty of smiles following their driving experience.
The event also welcomed BBC South, who joined Stagecoach to capture the day and put a spotlight on the opportunities available to women in the bus industry.
The Women’s Open Day was hosted by Stagecoach South Operations Director Carol Sim, who began her own career as a bus driver before progressing through supervisory and management roles.

“It was particularly brilliant to see so many people getting behind the wheel and having a go at driving a bus, the smiles afterwards said it all!”
