Spinnaker Tower lights up for South Coast's most vulnerable children on Cash for Kids Day
The Spinnaker Tower was illuminated in the pink of Cash for Kids on Thursday 30 April, as the charity marked its annual fundraising day with a landmark moment for Portsmouth, and a new world record that united hundreds of thousands of people across the UK.

Cash for Kids Day is the charity’s flagship annual campaign, raising money to support disadvantaged children aged 0–18 across the UK who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect or additional needs. On the South Coast, every pound raised stays local, funding practical grants for community groups, schools and families who need it most.
This year’s Cash for Kids Day centred on The World’s Biggest Music Quiz, an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ bid for the largest online quiz ever held. Hosted by charity patrons Ant & Dec alongside presenters from across the Bauer radio network, participants donated a minimum of £5 to take part in the live, hour-long event at 1pm on 30 April.
For the South Coast team, the day builds on a strong record of local impact. Last year, Cash for Kids South Coast supported 4,747 children, ranging from those in community groups to organisations running holiday clubs. Nationally in 2025, Cash for Kids Day raised more than £1 million, supporting more than 180,000 children.
“Seeing the Spinnaker Tower lit up for Cash for Kids Day is a proud moment for our whole team,” said Lisa Congdon, Cash for Kids South Coast manager. “It’s a reminder that what we do here genuinely matters, whether that’s helping a child eat properly during the school holidays or ensuring a family in crisis has somewhere to turn. Every penny raised local, stays local and goes directly to the children who need it most.”
Funds raised through Cash for Kids Day support the charity’s impact grants, which provide practical, life-changing support. This includes specialist equipment and therapy, as well as to food, warmth, and activities for children who might otherwise go without. The charity guarantees that a minimum of 80p in every £1 raised goes directly to children and young people.
