Slimming world and Clubbercise infusion
At Slimming World, we often say it’s about so much more than just the number on the scales—and nowhere is that more true than in Sam Jones’ thriving Leigh Park Thursday evening group.
After last year marked 55 years of Slimming World—its beautiful Emerald anniversary—it felt quite ironic that so many of us recently turned up wearing green. But it wasn’t in honour of that milestone… it was for something just as special. We were celebrating Kerry’s birthday, and as a huge fan of Wicked, a green theme felt like the perfect choice!

Of course, the weight losses are incredible. Take Chelle Bavin, for example. In just 18 months, she achieved an astonishing loss of over 6 stone. But what makes Chelle’s journey truly special isn’t just the transformation—it’s the ripple effect she’s created within her group.
Because Slimming World isn’t just about Food Optimising. It’s about building confidence, discovering joy in movement, and finding your people.

As Chelle embraced a more active lifestyle to support her weight loss, she decided to try something fun—Clubbercise with Claire, held at the local working men’s club right next door to the Slimming World venue. Claire runs sessions on Monday evenings in Leigh Park at 6:30pm, as well as a Tuesday evening class in Southbourne—making it easy for members to get involved.
What started as one member stepping out of her comfort zone quickly became something much bigger.
First, Kerry Wilkinson joined her. Then Natalie Andrews came along. Before long, the energy was infectious—and even their own Consultant, Sam Jones, couldn’t resist getting involved!
Soon, their Slimming World sessions were buzzing with more than just recipes and weight losses. Conversations naturally turned to Slimming World’s active lifestyle programme, with laughter and stories from Clubbercise becoming a regular highlight.
And then came one of the most inspiring moments of all.
Robert Kingston, aged 77, heard the group talking and decided he’d give it a go. There may have been a few raised eyebrows—but Robert proved everyone wrong. Not only did he turn up, he absolutely loved it.
From there, the group continued to grow. Janice Shepperson joined in, and now Robert’s daughter, Cathy Gordon, is stepping onto the dance floor too. What began as a small idea has turned into a vibrant, supportive mini-community within a community.
Together, these incredible members—and their Consultant—have lost an astonishing combined total of over 18½ stone. But perhaps even more importantly, they’ve gained friendships, confidence, laughter, and a shared sense of achievement.
They joke that they’re taking over Claire’s Clubbercise class—but what they’re really doing is something far more powerful. They’re showing that moving more doesn’t have to feel like a chore. It can be fun, social, uplifting—and something you genuinely look forward to.
That’s the heart of Slimming World’s active lifestyle programme: find something you enjoy and simply move a little more.
Because when you combine weight loss support with real friendships and a sense of belonging, something magical happens. People don’t just change their bodies—they change their lives.
If you’d love to be part of something like this, to feel supported, inspired, and maybe even discover a new passion along the way, why not come along and see it for yourself?
