Rowans Hospice’s Shining Stars Walk Returns for an unforgettable night of remembrance, community and fundraising
The fabulous fundraising walk is making a return for 2026
Rowans Hospice is inviting people from across the local community to come together for the return of its much-loved Shining Stars Walk in 2026.

Whether walking in memory of a loved one, supporting local hospice care, or simply enjoying a unique evening with family and friends, participants can look forward to a spectacular night of reflection, celebration and community spirit.
The flagship fundraising event on September 26 offers adults and children the chance to experience Portsmouth’s iconic waterfront under the stars, choosing between a 4-mile or 8-mile route. Starting at 7pm from HMS Temeraire, walkers will pass some of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, including the Spinnaker Tower and HMS Warrior, beautifully illuminated against the night sky.

While remembrance remains at the heart of the event, Shining Stars Walk is open to everyone. Participants can walk to honour someone special, show their support for Rowans Hospice, or simply be part of one of the region’s most inspiring community events, all while helping to raise vital funds for local hospice care.
This year, the event introduces an exciting new feature. For the first time, participants will have the opportunity to dedicate a personalised star, which will be projected onto one of Portsmouth’s most iconic buildings. This striking larger-than-life display will create a powerful visual tribute, offering a meaningful way to celebrate and remember loved ones while becoming part of the evening’s unforgettable atmosphere.

The night will also feature entertainment before and during the walk, creating a vibrant and uplifting experience for participants of all ages.
Adding to the reflective element of the event, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will once again open its doors exclusively to walkers, inviting them aboard the historic HMS Warrior to light a candle, pause for reflection, and remember those who hold a special place in their hearts.

Participants are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the event by wearing bright colours and glowing accessories, helping to transform the waterfront into a dazzling trail of light. Glowsticks and other novelties will be available to purchase on the night, adding to the fun and celebratory atmosphere.
Every participant will receive an official Shining Stars Walk t-shirt and, upon completing their chosen route, a commemorative medal to mark their achievement and support for Rowans Hospice.
“We have been absolutely thrilled by the response since registrations opened, and we cannot wait to welcome our community for another unforgettable Shining Stars Walk,” said Yvonne Penny-Filewod, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Rowans Hospice.

“Whether people are taking part in memory of a loved one, supporting the work of the Hospice, or simply looking to enjoy a fantastic evening with family and friends, there is a place for everyone at Shining Stars. We are looking forward to welcoming both familiar faces and first-time participants to what promises to be our biggest and brightest event yet. It will be a truly special evening filled with remembrance, celebration, community spirit and some unforgettable moments along the way.”
This year, Rowans Hospice aims to raise £70,000 through participant sponsorship and fundraising activities. Every pound raised will help the Hospice continue providing specialist care and support to people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families across South East Hampshire.
