Review - The Sun Shines On Spinnaker Chorus' Quartets at Fareham Music Festival

What an incredible afternoon - Sun shining in a clear blue sky, birds singing, calm warm winds blowing, - just the ticket to relax our two quartets before they set off to compete.

Singing in the Barbershop Quartet Class, Fourtuned Cookies and Soul Traders, found themselves enveloped in the surroundings of the West Hill Park School in Titchfield whilst warming up their voices and steadying their nerve. Entering the "Barbershop Quartet Class" at Fareham Music Festival on Saturday the Cookies and the Traders managed to wow the adjudicator with their singing and performances and were awarded 1st and 2nd respectively!! What an amazing achievement!

The Cookies sang: "This could be the start of something big" written by Steve Allen arr.by Scott Kitzmiller and "The Bandstand in Central Park" written and arr.by Nancy Bergman. The adjudicator, Steven Roberts, said: "I really love your energy, notes are bright and focussed. You each have individual qualities that combine positively. A good use of silence, promotes drama - a very engaging quartet".

They were so thrilled to receive "The Cabin Crew A Capella Cup" for the second year running. Jo Thistlewaite (the Fourtuned Cookies Tenor) said, "I am really proud of our performance today and though there are always things to work on I am looking forward to doing that - that's why I love our hobby".

The Traders sang: "The Longest Time" written by Billy Joel arr.by Tom Gentry and "Take me home country roads" written by John Denver, arr. by Steve Jamison. The adjudicator said: "Lovely communication and connection between the four of you...a good positive rhythmical feel and a good sense of performance".

Spinnaker wishes to thank everyone who contributed to making this event a resounding success - Keeping the music alive and celebrating local talent.
