Registration is open for the 4th annual March for Men with Kev

Walkers prepare to turn Petersfield blue again on Sunday 13th September at 10 a.m. The people of Petersfield are coming together in memory of Kevan Birkett, to raise awareness of prostate cancer, and support organisations that make a real difference to those affected by the disease.

The event continues to grow in strength and community spirit to honour the life and legacy of Kevan, who lost his battle with prostate cancer in May 2023.  Kev was a much loved local resident, a husband, father and dedicated painter and decorator.  Aged just 57 he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer on 1st December, 2021 after experiencing persistent neck and shoulder pain.  Despite treatment, the cancer had already spread and was incurable.  Even though he had been devastated by the news, Kev remained passionate about encouraging other men to seek help early, to get tested and to talk openly about the disease.  He devoted himself to raising awareness and was often seen walking through town with bright blue hair, with the message: early diagnosis saves lives.

The March for Men with Kev (MFMWK) movement began in September 2023.  It was started by a group of Kevan's friends and family who had marched alongside him in the March for Men event in London.  Since then they have gained many more supporters and have continued his mission through MFMWK.  Over the past three years, hundreds of walkers have taken part in the event raising over £35,000 for Prostate Cancer UK, PCaSO (Prostate Cancer Support Organisation) and local hospice The Rosemary Foundation.  This has helped to encourage more and more men to understand their prostate cancer risk and to seek testing when appropriate.  The charity has also supported and promoted local PSA testing events.

Location:                    Petersfield Square

(there will be lots of activity in the square and the opportunity to win some amazing prizes).

Start time:                  Registration from 10:00 (walk starts at 10:45)

Routes:                        2.5km. 5k and 10k (all flat and accessible)

Registration Fee:     £5 per adult (includes event t-shirt if required);

                                      free for children, and dogs!  Both are very welcome.
