Pupils dancing for joy as Baycroft School celebrates success at this year's Dance Live event
Baycroft School has praised its pupils after a stunning performance in the recent Dance Live! event in Portsmouth.
This was a particular achievement as Baycroft is a school for students with special educational needs, all of whom have an EHCP.

Their dance was based around the story of Van Helsing but with a contemporary message about authenticity and being true to yourself.
A wide range of students took part, from Year 7 to Year 11 and they rehearsed for several months, not only after school but in the holidays as well. They were supported by student Dance Captains – senior students who have shown exceptional leadership qualities as well as excellent dance skills, and a team of dedicated staff.

Parents and carers as well as school staff flocked to the Guildhall in droves, and on both nights raised the roof with their enthusiastic support. This was echoed through the audience, with even rival teams and schools cheering them on in the inclusive spirit of the Dance Live competition.
Head of Performing Arts, Jordan Knight said “We are so proud of the students in every way. For many of the team, just managing the arrangements for the day and stamina and resilience to take part in a major competition like this is a stunning achievement in the context of their additional needs. Their commitment and determination week after week has really inspired all us involved in supporting them.
“Winning the heat twice was absolutely the icing on the cake – testament to how performing arts really do level the playing field and give our students the chance to shine, even when measured against mainstream peers.”
