Petrol prices vary across Hampshire, with the average price of unleaded ranging from 167.9p per litre in Yateley to 178.9p in Alresford, a difference of 11.0p per litre.

In Portsmouth, unleaded costs an average of 171.2p per litre across the 11 stations analysed. However, drivers can find petrol for as little as 167.7p per litre, meaning they could save around 3.5p per litre by choosing the cheapest station rather than paying the town’s average price.

Portsmouth’s average petrol price is slightly below the Hampshire average across the towns analysed, although several nearby areas offer cheaper fuel. New Milton has an average price of 168.0p per litre, while Yateley has an average of 167.9p. At the other end of the scale, Alresford has the highest average at 178.9p per litre.

The cheapest petrol available in Hampshire is currently 160.9p per litre in Southampton, while Portsmouth’s lowest price of 167.7p is 6.8p higher. This highlights how much prices can vary between towns, even within the same county.
In comparison to European countries, some have significantly higher petrol prices than others.

Denmark (£1.99 per litre) tops the list, with road trip route options that include Copenhagen, Aarhus, and the beaches of Jutland. In the Netherlands (£1.96 per litre), drivers can easily travel between Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and the country's famous windmill landscapes. Finland (£1.59 per litre) is known for its abundance of lakes, national parks, and long driving routes through Lapland. Germany (£1.83 per litre) connects destinations such as Berlin, Munich, the Black Forest, and Bavaria's castle region. Switzerland (£1.77 per litre) offers access to destinations such as Interlaken, Lucerne, and the mountain resorts of the Alps.

Freek Jurg, COO of Czechvignette.cz, has commented on the findings: ”Petrol prices can vary considerably between towns in Hampshire, so it can pay to compare prices before filling up. Portsmouth drivers have several options when it comes to where they buy their fuel, and the figures show that choosing a cheaper station could make a difference over time. Drivers travelling around Hampshire may also find that prices change significantly between nearby areas, so checking prices before setting off could help them avoid paying more than necessary.”
