The fantasy-themed roller derby event is family-friendly and will feature six teams of skaters from across the country competing across three games, with the coveted Golden Wheel up for grabs.

Spectators are encouraged to embrace the theme and come dressed in their best fantasy-inspired outfits, with a prize for the best dressed.

The event will run from 10am to 6pm, giving visitors the opportunity to watch one game or stay for the full day. Doors open at 10am, with the first whistle at 10:30am.

For those looking to get more involved, the third and final game will feature a "Pay to Roll" system, giving spectators the opportunity to add extra rules to the game and bring a little additional chaos to the track.

More than just a day of sport

Portsmouth Roller Wenches is a volunteer-run, self-funded roller derby league. Established 16 years ago, the league has represented Portsmouth across the UK and beyond.

Money raised through Lord of the BeaRings will help support the league's ongoing work, including purchasing equipment for new skaters, paying for training venue hire and covering insurance costs.

Roller derby is a fast-paced, full-contact team sport played on quad roller skates around an oval track. Two teams of five compete in short rounds known as "jams". Each team has a jammer who scores points by skating past opposing players, while their teammates block and assist them around the track.

PRW is also proud of the inclusive community surrounding the sport. Roller derby welcomes people of all genders, body types and backgrounds, and provides a supportive and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ participants.

The league has a wide age range too, with players aged from 18 to 50+, demonstrating that roller derby can be enjoyed by people at many different stages of life.

At Lord of the BeaRings, skaters and spectators will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets, event merchandise and programmes. Free colouring activities will also be available for children.placeholder image
