Excell Metal Spinning, based in Hilsea, and its cookware brand The Heritage, Excell have been named finalists for Innovation of the Year, Excellence in Procurement and Marketing Campaign of the Year.

The three shortlistings recognise the complete journey behind The Heritage, Excell, from developing its British-made copper cookware and manufacturing processes to creating a domestic supply chain and launching the collection to market.

The cookware is formed at Excell Metal Spinning’s Portsmouth factory using traditional metal spinning alongside modern manufacturing technology. The collection is made from solid copper, lined by hand with tin and designed to be repaired and re-lined, allowing each pan to remain in use for generations.

Eight British manufacturers contribute specialist materials, components and skills across the collection, supporting approximately 130 jobs throughout the supply chain.

Curtis Bligh, Head of Marketing and Sales at Excell Metal Spinning, said: “To see the project recognised across innovation, procurement and marketing is extremely rewarding. Those categories reflect the complete journey behind The Heritage, Excell, from developing the cookware and its manufacturing processes to building the British supply chain around it and taking a new brand to market.

“The finished pans are what customers see, but behind every one is a network of British skills and specialist makers. We set out to create cookware with genuine provenance, not simply a British name, and every stage had to live up to that ambition.”

The Heritage, Excell was created to demonstrate what could be achieved by combining Portsmouth’s metalworking heritage with specialist expertise from manufacturers across Britain.

Each pan passes through several skilled processes, including metal spinning, handle production, riveting, tin lining, polishing and engraving, before being inspected and prepared for sale.

The collection has already attracted the attention of professional chefs, including Gill Meller, Gary Pearce of 36 On The Quay and Philippa Vine, as the company works to establish The Heritage, Excell among the world’s leading cookware brands.

The Made in Britain Impact Awards celebrate manufacturers making a measurable contribution to British industry, innovation, employment and responsible business.
