Poetry in Motion at The Fernes Care Home
Residents at The Fernes Care Home put pen to paper and brought poetry to life as they celebrated National Poetry Day with a wonderful afternoon of words, memories and creativity.

The Fernes was filled with the sound of poetry as residents came together to enjoy some of the nation’s most loved and familiar poems, sharing favourite verses and reminiscing about poems they remembered from years gone by.
But this wasn’t just an afternoon of reading - our budding poets were given the opportunity to become poets themselves!

Residents put their creativity to the test, writing their very own poems inspired by their memories, experiences and imaginations. Once their masterpieces were complete, everyone gathered together to proudly read their poems aloud, creating plenty of smiles, laughter and moments of reflection.
The afternoon proved that you’re never too old to discover your inner poet, and that sometimes the simplest words can tell the most wonderful stories.
Alina Danetiu, General Manager at The Fernes Care Home, said:
“It was absolutely wonderful to see our residents embracing their creativity and sharing their words with one another. Poetry has such a special way of bringing people together and bringing memories to life. We were so proud to hear everyone reading their own poems, and it was lovely to see just how much enjoyment the afternoon brought.”
From much-loved classics to brand-new creations, The Fernes celebrated National Poetry Day in true poetic style — proving that every resident has a story to tell and, perhaps, a poet within them waiting to be discovered!
