Local children's author wins awards

Author Donna Vann’s book about a teleporting canine has won The Wishing Shelf Book Award. According to judges, GALACTIC DOG! is ‘a hilarious, fast-paced space adventure about a brave dog who must save a galaxy from a mischievous evil cat – perfect for kids who love laughter, action, and out-of-this-world fun.’ It is suitable for ages six to ten.

‘I’m thrilled to receive the silver Wishing Shelf Award, especially as the books were judged by school children,’ Donna said. ‘My favourite comment was from a boy of eight, who said he didn’t think he liked reading, but my book was awesome.’

GALACTIC DOG! was recently awarded ‘Best Children’s Book of the Year’ by The Book Shop in Lee-on-the-Solent. Donna’s titles are also available on Amazon.

Donna’s chapter book SUPERCOUSINS: THE FRANKENPOPS RESCUE, about four cousins with superpowers, was a finalist in The Wishing Shelf Awards. Both novels are illustrated throughout by artist Joseph Wilkins and are produced in a dyslexia-friendly format.

Originally from Texas in the USA, Donna has lived in the UK for many years. In addition to authoring 14 books, mostly for children, she has produced several Nativity dramas for St Faith’s Church in Lee. Donna is available to visit local schools, libraries and Scout groups; she can be contacted through her website, www.donnavann.com.
