Horndean students commended in county competition
The History Department at Horndean Technology College (HTC) entered the Hampshire History Archive Trust Competition for the first time this year, inviting students from all year groups to research any aspect of local history using archival material. Entries could be individual or group projects.

History Teacher, Mr Harrison-Jeal said: "We are extremely proud of Sasha in Year 10 (featured above), whose project on the Hampshire Constabulary won 1st place in the Key Stage 4 category."
On 29 June, Mr Harrison-Jeal and Miss Gudgeon joined Sasha and her family at a presentation with the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire to receive her certificate.

In Key Stage 3, HTC had three further entries:
• Thomas (Year 7) researched the Horndean Amateur Theatre, earning praise for both his archival use and his contribution to the archives.
• Matthew (Year 8) produced a project on the history of Waterlooville, commended for the breadth of archival sources.
• Lauren, Bea and Florence (Year 8) created a project on Horndean during the Second World War, praised for its presentation, archival research and excellent referencing.

All three Key Stage 3 projects were Highly Commended and students received certificates and personal congratulations from Dr Dougall, the competition organiser.
After such a successful first year, HTC looks forward to encouraging more students to take part next year!
